Strictly’s Dianne Buswell gets incredible surprise at home from ‘proud’ boyfriend Joe Sugg after show win
Strictly’s Dianne Buswell got an incredible surprise at home from her proud boyfriend Joe Sugg after her show win. Comedian Chris McCausland became the first blind winner of Strictly Come Dancing as he and Dianne lifted the glitterball trophy on Saturday night following a public vote as the series celebrated 20 years on screen this year.
The win is the first for Dianne, who joined the show in 2017. She has made it to the final with boyfriend Joe in 2018, and Eastenders actor and model Bobby Brazier in 2023. Dianne’s proud other half was on hand to watch her and Chris claim victory and taking to his Instagram on Saturday morning, the 33 year old gushed over her with a sweet tribute.
He also revealed the elaborate celebrations that had been set up at the home they share, with Dianne seen beaming as she posed under a huge homemade sign saying ‘2024 Winner’ as she proudly held her trophy. Balloons covered the floor and were hung from the staircase, while lights crept up the bannister and a Christmas tree added to the cute ambiance. Another snap showed Dianne and Joe embracing with their arms around each other as they stood with their backs were to the camera.

Joe gushed in the caption: "There are no words to describe how proud I am of you both @diannebuswell @chrismccauslandcomedy, Last night was an absolute movie. You made us laugh, you made us cry and you proved to the world that you are good enough and you can achieve anything the doubters say you can’t and more.
"Chris I thank you for making this year so special for Dianne and I could not be happier that you’re the partner she finally lifted the glitterball with. Dot, it’s been a long winding, road full of ups and downs for 7 years but you have shown pure determination & dedication and you finally got there in the best way possible and everyone has been able to see how amazing you are and what an incredible teacher you are this year. You are both inspirations and have the nations hearts on behalf of everyone, thank you."
One fan wrote: “Sobbing again am I?!? . I love how all the other finalists and pros were so happy for them! Joe as her biggest supporter was there to see it but also her parents! unreal!" Another said: "Wonderful! I think most of the country were sobbing!!!!"
And a third commented: "Well said Joe. What an incredible journey it's been and now finally the world gets to see how special your girl really is. Have the best family Christmas ever, you all deserve it."
An emotional Chris cried and hugged Dianne after his win was announced and he said “anything can happen” with “support and determination”. He thanked Dianne and said: “She deserves this so much. She’s just honestly one of the easiest people to be funny with and unless she changes her number, she’s stuck with me.
On winning the glitterball, he said: “This is for her (Dianne) and it’s for everyone out there that thought and got told they couldn’t do something. It just shows with opportunity and support and determination, anything can happen.”
Meanwhile Dianne said the trophy is for “both of us”. “It’s pretty cool,” she said. “Chris says that this is for me, but it’s not for me – this is for me and you, Chris. We did this together. This is for both of us, not just me, we worked together and we did it.”
