Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are planning a trip to visit Thomas Markle
The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Saturday was a beautiful affair, but for the bride, it may have been tinged with sadness due to the absence of her father.
In the week leading up to the wedding, it was finally confirmed by Meghan via Kensington Palace that her father, Thomas Markle, would not be able to attend the nuptials.
The 73-year-old was reportedly undergoing heart surgery in the week following a reported heart attack.
It’s now reported that the newlyweds are arranging a trip to visit Mr. Markle who missed out on the day’s events in his hometown of Mexico.
A family source told The Sun: “Meghan and Thomas are both devastated he wasn’t able to attend the wedding and have discussed seeing each other soon.
“They have been speaking all week, mostly by text. She has been worried about him and checking how he is regularly.
“Thomas has told other family members he hopes and expects Meghan and Harry to come to see him.”
The trip will be carried out after the couple’s honeymoon.
It’s not yet confirmed where the couple are planning to honeymoon, and whether they’ll be incorporating their visit into their travels or return home to Kensington Palace first.
Speaking to TMZ, Thomas reportedly said after the wedding: “My baby looks beautiful and she looks very happy. I wish I were there and I wish them all my love and all happiness.”
Days before the couple wed, it was confirmed by Kensington Palace that Prince Charles would be walking Meghan Markle down the aisle in the absence of her father.
During the ceremony, Meghan decided to walk halfway down the aisle on her own and Prince Charles met her halfway.
