Do you remember your first day of school?

Don’t, it was terrifying – and anyone with kids of their own will be re-living this day through their child’s own nerves and anticipation before theirs.

Which is why one school’s way of reassuring their newest kids is something we all desperately wished every school did for our little ones.

At Bowen State School in Queensland, Australia, each student was given a photograph of a poem and goody bag.

Each bag contained a rubber, stickers, a puzzle, a bookmark and some Smarties chocolates.

As if that wasn’t great enough, the poem matches up with these contents – explaining the significance of each on their first day.

It reads:

“I am so glad that you’re here.

“Here is a little goodie bag to help kick off the year.

“The eraser is to remind you that is ok to make mistakes [sic].

“We’ll work and learn together, no matter what it takes.

“The stickers mean we’ll stick together and work hard as a team.

“The puzzle shows how we fit together working towards a common theme.

“The bookmark is to show you you always have a place.

“If you ever feel a little lost we’ll help you find your space.

“The smarties are to remind you how smart I think you are.

“Work hard and do your best, remember to aim far!”

A photo of the poem has since gone viral on Facebook, having been shared more than 25,000 times since being posted on Monday.

And acting headteacher Jemille Malouf, told Mama Mia this wasn’t the only welcome the students received:

“It is just one of the ways that our brilliant teachers welcomed their new students this morning,” she said.
