There's 'some truth' to feud between William, Harry, Kate and Meghan, says royal biographer

Over the past few weeks, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s “rift” with the Cambridges has been unavoidable.

Since news of Harry and Meghan’s impending move to Windsor broke, headlines have been full of disagreements between the foursome, with The Sun reportingthere’s been tension between the brothers.”

Sources also told Vanity Fair that there had been a fall-out between the pair last Christmas, due to William’s lack of effort with Meghan.

While The Telegraph has suggested there is a ‘feud’ between sister-in-laws Meghan and Kate, with sources saying that the Duchess of Cambridge “was left in tears following a bridesmaids dress fitting for Princess Charlotte.”

All of the various stories have left the world wondering just how much of what’s being reported is true – and whether the younger royals really are struggling to get on.

“I think we’ve got this situation where the concept of the feuding has all been slightly blown out of proportion but now people are sort of alerted to this narrative,” royal correspondent Victoria Murphy tells Yahoo UK‘s The Royal Box.

“Whenever something comes along that’s a tiny thing that supports it, it gets seized on.

“People say there’s no smoke without fire, it must be true because there’s so many stories, but there’s only actually one story but it’s just been repeated 50 times.”

However, royal biographer Duncan Larcombe believes that there is some truth to the rumours about a feud between the couples, because the royals would issue a denial.

Larcombe, who was royal editor of The Sun for 12 years, broke the story about Prince Harry, then 20, wearing a Nazi armband at a fancy dress party in 2005.

He reveals he didn’t sleep that night knowing that it was on the next day’s front page.

He says: “If that picture had been faked, I would have been sacked.

“And journalists on national newspapers cannot just make up stories about Meghan and Kate not getting on.

“The palace have power. They will write a letter to the editor or they will issue a denial or worse still, they will actually come out and say on TV, ‘this is not true, this person has made this up.’ As a journalist, you’re toast.

“So there is unfortunately some truth, we don’t know exactly what the truth is, but there is truth.”

So far, Kensington Palace has not responded to any of the reports, except a story about Kate reportedly telling Meghan not to berate members of her staff in the run-up to the royal wedding.

A spokesman told The Sun: “This never happened.”

The last time Harry, Meghan, William and Kate were seen together in public was for the Remembrance Sunday services.

The foursome are expected to attend the Christmas Day service at Sandringham together, where no doubt all eyes will be on them to see how they interact – and if there’s any hint of a feud.
