Regularly turn the volume down when you park the car, buy your undies in M&S and can’t help but groan when you have to bend down?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but these are all tell-tale signs you’re getting old, according to your Gen Z little brothers and sisters.

According to a poll of 2,000 adults under the age of 30 by insights firm Perspectus Global, other indicators you’re officially ancient include becoming obsessed with bin day (surely, this is important information to know?!), insisting on wearing comfortable shoes (hello Crocs) and using hashtags incorrectly (#whatevs).

Watching Countryfile purely for the weather report at the end, asking for “milk and two sugars” in your tea and regularly using the word "funky" also made the list of signs you're past your prime.

Other warnings you’re no longer down with the kids, according to the kids, include struggling to use your remote control, using a gas BBQ and switching your radio channel of choice from Radio 1 to Radio 2.

Interestingly ordering a Cappuccino is the number one sign that you are officially uncool, with 52% of young Brits agreeing only an old person would do this. Sorry hipsters, we'll make ours a caramel macchiato next time.

Being unable to recognise Love Island contestants (21%), having a DVD collection (17%), preferring headphones with a cord (11%) and asking for a “Rachel Cut” at the hairdressers (26%) were also considered to be signs that you are past your peak.

In fact, according to the survey 45 is the age you are officially over the hill.

The study also revealed the ages when Gen Z consider certain activities should be actively discouraged, suggesting that 42 is the age when we should hang up our dancing shoes (flat, comfy ones of course!) and avoid going clubbing again.

"Lads” or “girls” nights out on the town should also be wound down by the time you have celebrated your 45th birthday, because people past that age should instead be at home knitting, apparently.

If you're over the age of 51, you can forget about wearing jeans, as over fifties should never be seen in denim, equally anyone over 45 should never darken the door of a tattoo parlour.

In their final parting shot, 54% of the Gen Z-ers polled said there was something a little bit sad and cringeworthy about older Brits trying to be "down with the kids".
