Joe Alwyn has opened up about his split from Taylor Swift and the public scrutiny that followed, amid rumours that he's mentioned in her latest album.

The 33 year old actor and the 34 year old singer were believed to be an item for six years before they called it quits last year. Now, Taylor is reportedly dating Travis Kelce, while Joe seems to have moved on as well.

Fans have been speculating that Joe is alluded to in Taylor's album 'Tortured Poets Department', which dropped in April and quickly topped the UK charts, breaking several records along the way.

Now, weeks later, Joe has finally spoken out about the speculation surrounding him and his break up with the Brit Award-winning artist. He admitted that ending a long-term relationship can be tough, especially when it's under the public eye.

Speaking to the Sunday Times Style Magazine, as reported by PA Media, he said: "I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathise and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years. That is a hard thing to navigate," reports the Mirror.

Joe - whose acting credits include films like 'The Favourite' (2018) - described the experience of a break up becoming public "suddenly" as "unusual and abnormal" with the world being able to "weigh in" on it within days. He observed how it was "speculated on," "dissected" and "pulled out of shape beyond recognition".

In a candid chat, he told the publication while discussing his ex Taylor's Eras Tour hitting the UK: "There is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said." The actor expressed that he has "made [his] peace" with this reality.

He shared that he and Taylor "decided to keep the more private details" of their past relationship "private," emphasizing that it was "never something to commodify". Joe affirmed his stance, saying there's "no reason to change that now".

Reflecting on his life a year after the split made headlines, Joe revealed in the interview that he's feeling "fortunate" to be in a "really great place" both in his career and personal life, adding that he feels "really good".

The conversation comes as Taylor's the Eras Tour continues in the UK this month. She's already wowed fans in Edinburgh and Liverpool, with the tour having kicked off last year.

Taylor is set to perform in Cardiff and London soon, followed by shows in Ireland and other European locations.
