Prince George celebrated his 10th birthday over the weekend, which means - incredibly - it's been one whole decade since Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed their first child into the world - and the future heir to the throne.

Following the youngster's 10th trip around the sun, it's been reported that the Princess of Wales had one strict rule she had to obey when she gave birth to her firstborn. Of course, because Royal rules are nothing new, and Royal births are a major deal, it doesn't come as a huge surprise that there was some sort of protocol surrounding the event. Which was that no one was allowed to learn of the news until one member of the Royal Family had been informed first - the late Queen Elizabeth II.

This strict rule meant that Kate had to wait to tell her parents, family and friends until it was confirmed that the Queen was aware of Prince George's birth. According to Marie Claire's reports, those in the delivery room were also sworn to secrecy to keep their lips sealed.

They also reported the Royal protocol in full, which states that the current monarch should be the first call following the birth of a future monarch. In terms of how Queen Elizabeth found out, it was revealed that Prince William - the now next-in-line to the throne - called his grandmother from a specially encrypted phone to break the good news.

Apparently, this isn't the only rule involved in the birth of a Royal either. As well as being the first to learn of George's arrival, Queen Elizabeth also had to approve his name due to the fact that he was a direct heir to the throne.

Luckily, Prince George Alexander Louis was a hit!
