Steven Knight's hit period drama confirms Christmas return date
Steven Knight's series SAS Rogue Heroes has confirmed a festive return date.
The BBC drama, which debuted in 2022, follows the origins of the British Army Special Air Service – aka the SAS.
After recently dropping an action-packed trailer, it has now been confirmed that the second season will premiere on New Year's Day at 9pm on BBC One and in full on iPlayer from 6am.
The new episodes will follow the troops as they embark on a mission in mainland Europe in 1943.
"GCHQ have cast doubt over the future of the regiment, while the creation of a second unit and an influx of new arrivals make things even more difficult for the men," the synopsis teases. "Can they prove that the SAS remains essential to the war, wherever it may lead them?"
Season 2 will see the returns of regular stars Jack O'Connell, Connor Swindells and Dominic West as Lieutenants Paddy Mayne and David Stirling, and Lieutenant Colonel Dudley Clarke
Also back is Sofia Boutella as Eve Mansour, while Bohemian Rhapsody's Gwilym Lee has signed on to star as Bill Stirling.
The first season became a big hit upon its release, averaging around 6.8 million viewers, and the show was unsurprisingly recommissioned for more episodes.
"After the roaring success of Rogue Heroes I'm delighted to be embarking on the next chapter of the story," Peaky Blinders' Knight said upon the renewal. "Series two will take the SAS into mainland Europe and will take our heroes to the limits of their endurance."
Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, added: "The fantastic response and huge iPlayer figures for SAS Rogue Heroes is a testament to Steven Knight's incredible skill for turning our history into modern, must-see TV."
SAS Rogue Heroes will return for season 2 on New Year's Day on BBC One at 9pm and on iPlayer from 6am. Season one is available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.
