The BBC has unveiled the first look at The Split star Annabel Scholey in the new thriller series Dead and Buried.

Coming later this year to BBC One Northern Ireland and top streaming service BBC iPlayer, this four-part drama is a story of revenge and deception.

In the series, Cathy (Scholey) and her young son have a chance encounter with Michael (The Fall's Colin Morgan) in a supermarket, kickstarting a quest for vengeance.

Michael was convicted of murdering Cathy's brother 20 years earlier, but he's since built a life for himself as a successful businessman and family man.

Cathy is determined to make Michael pay for his actions by striking up a clandestine relationship with him, all the while masterminding a secret harassment campaign to expose his past.

Dead and Buried comes from writer Colin Bateman, who has previously worked on Doc Martin and Murphy’s Law.

Joining Scholey and Morgan in the cast of Dead and Buried will be Kerri Quinn (The Witcher: Blood Origin), Waj Ali (Carnival Row), Owen Roe (Vikings) and Niamh Walsh (The Sandman).

Micheal Hanna and Joanne Crawford (Blue Lights and Line of Duty) have supporting roles in the series as well.

Scholey was also recently confirmed to be returning to The Split for a two-part miniseries called The Split: Barcelona, in which she'll reunite with Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan.

Series creator Abi Morgan has revealed that the new episodes reunite the Defoe family for a destination wedding filled with "problematic prenups, scandalous wedding crashers, and low-flying marriage proposals".

Scholey has told Digital Spy that she expects The Split's special episodes to air around Christmas, though a transmission date has yet to be confirmed by the BBC.

Dead and Buried will premiere on BBC One Northern Ireland and the BBC iPlayer this autumn, while The Split: Barcelona is currently in production.
