Simon Cowell has shared his fears that no one will turn up to audition for his latest talent quest. The entertainment tycoon, who's on the hunt for a new pop sensation akin to One Direction, a band he famously put together on The X Factor 14 years ago is launching a brand-new show to find fresh musical talent.

Despite his track record, Simon is feeling the pressure in this social media age, worrying that young hopefuls might prefer to stay in their bedrooms rather than step onto the stage. Chatting with HELLO! magazine, he confessed: "[It's] one of the scariest things I've ever done because I have no safety net."

Reflecting on the past, he added: "I used to do this 25 years ago, before social media, so now everyone is just in their bedrooms." But the big question on his mind is: "Are they going to turn up to audition? I hope so! ".

Even in a music scene currently ruled by solo female powerhouses like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo, the ' Britain's Got Talent ' judge is certain there's room for another chart-topping boy band. When probed about the public's appetite for a group similar to 1D, he confidently affirmed: "Yes, a hundred per cent."

Simon even suggests that if One Direction, who the music mogul formed out of solo contestants on the X Factor in 2010, were to emerge today, they'd be an even bigger hit. He believes in the timeless appeal of a good boy band, saying: "I've always believed everything is cynical. If One Direction formed tomorrow and put their first single out now, I honestly think it would be more successful."

And it seems the connections made during his time on 'The X Factor' have lasted; Harry Styles recently reached out to him after hearing Simon on Steven Bartlett's podcast 'The Diary of a CEO'. Simon revealed: "It was great to hear from him."

"He said listening to the podcast reminded him of what a great time we had together. I thought it said so much about him that he would even bother to make that phone call."
