Kate and Meghan have long reigned the fashion charts and this summer, we’re seeking inspiration from Kensington Palace before tackling our heatwave-ready wardrobe.

With regal walkabouts and engagements a regular feature on their work schedules, the sister-in-laws are always in need of covetable but comfortable footwear.

So it’s hardly surprising that the nation has readily declared the duo’s go-to espadrille, the £80 ‘Carina’ wedge by Castañer, the shoe of the season.

The Duchess of Sussex was first spotted in the Spanish label during her first official overseas tour of Australia and New Zealand in autumn 2018.

On day four, the mother-to-be dressed diplomatically in a sun dress by Melbourne-based designer Martin Grant. To complete the £1,080 ensemble, she dug out her Castañer espadrilles for the first time.

Further demonstrating the shoe’s appeal, she revisited the brand once more in Fiji to accessorise a Figue pom pom maxi dress.

Though she’s sure to have been influenced by the Duchess of Cambridge, who has a long-lasting relationship with the beach-ready wedge.

The mother-of-three famously embarked upon her 2011 honeymoon in a pair of LK Bennett espadrilles before proving they’re a chic alternative to trainers while cricketing in some while visiting India in 2016.

Fast-forward to 2019 and the 37-year-old is still a fan girl, after being spotted wearing a similar pair of the Castañer espadrilles on a trip to the 2019 RHS Chelsea Flower Show on May 20 - the perfect touch to a floaty Erdem dress.

If the royal stamp of approval still isn’t enough to convince you to bag a pair then it’s also worth name-dropping her sister, Pippa Middleton, who is also a fellow believer in the espadrille.
