Meghan Markle dresses diplomatically in £69 dress for first royal tour engagement
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their first appearance in Cape Town, South Africa, on Monday afternoon to mark the start of their 10-day tour.
The couple arrived for an engagement in Nyanga township, where they visited a workshop that teaches children about their rights, safety and self-awareness.
To kick off her tour wardrobe, Meghan wore a surprisingly affordable look: a patterned £69 black and white wrap dress by Mayamiko: a sustainable and ethical African label.
Each garment is made in Malawi by a team of tailors, pattern cutters and seamstresses.
According to the brand’s website, the clothing is made using traditional African techniques and locally-printed fabrics, locally referred to as Chitenje.
“Our collections are cross-seasonal and are inspired by African artisanal traditions and prints, with ethical trading and sustainability at our core,” reads the brand’s bio on its website.
The low price point was a direct contrast to the Duchess’ most recent outfit choice: Meghan was spotted at friend Misha Nonoo’s star-studded wedding in Italy this weekend wearing a £9,000 dress by luxe Italian label Valentino.

Meghan paired the monochrome dress with a pair of black detailed canvas espadrilles by Castaner, a shoe brand much loved by Meghan as well as her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge.
The shoes are available to purchase for £80.
Meghan accessorised with a dainty necklace and earrings and wore her hair in a sleek ponytail.
