Rob Brydon opens up on A-list co-star’s ‘highly-strung’ behaviour on set

Rob Brydon has opened up about working on Amazon Prime Video comedy-drama My Lady Jane, which rewrites the story of England's shortest-reigning monarch Lady Jane Grey.

The Gavin & Stacey star plays Lord Dudley in the series and while he works alongside the likes of Anna Chancellor, Emily Bader and Jim Broadbent, he admitted that

Dominic Cooper

- who plays Lord Seymour - was one of the more "eccentric" characters on set. Speaking to OK! in an exclusive chat, Rob said that while Mamma Mia star Dominic is "great company", he had a few "bizarre" tendencies whilst filming.

"Dom is a real character. He's eccentric and he's highly strung, wonderful company, but well," he said, with co-star Anna Chancellor adding: "He's always doing something."

Rob continued: "That's it - he's always doing something! He never sits still. I'll tell you what he's doing - changing his clothes.

"So you get to the end of a take. Well, we're going to stay in our clothes, right? Obviously, until they reset, he's taking off his shoes, putting big trainers on, pulling over sweatpants, taking off the multi buttoned jacket," he laughs. "Bizarre behaviour! There's always people fussing around him in between things."

Meanwhile Anna, who plays Lady Jane's mum Lady Frances Grey, added: "He loves to know what's going on with catering. He’s like, ‘You’ll never guess what they’ve got around there.’ He knows everyone - all the drivers, the security. He’s been around the block.

"And then sometimes because he wants not to be talked to. So he puts ‘Don’t talk to me’ on his trailer because he wants to sleep. He is good company though."

Based on the novel of the same name, My Lady Jane follows the English noblewoman as she avoids being executed just nine days into her reign, and instead lives out her own romantic comedy whilst getting to know her soon-to-be husband Lord Guildford Dudley (played by Edward Bluemel).

Rob Brydon plays Guildford's father Lord Dudley - a villainous character who's arranging his son's marriage to the future Queen of England to hoist his family's position in the royal court. "I tend to play good-hearted people," Rob said. "I think Dudley has a heart in there but he's trying to keep his family afloat.

"You always hear people saying, 'It's fun playing the baddie.' I've done it once or twice in my career, not that anybody's ever noticed it," he said. "I played a bad guy in a Napoleon thing and I really enjoyed that and I thought it would lead onto other things but it didn't."

My Lady Jane arrives on Amazon Prime Video on Thursday 27th June.
