Rebecca Minkoff is looking back on a tough moment with her daughter.

While speaking at the Momcozy Pop-Up Launch Party in New York City on Friday, Sept. 6, the fashion designer and newest addition to The Real Housewives of New York City, 42, recalled a recent conversation she had with her 9-year-old daughter Bowie after the pre-teen told her she wasn't being a good mom.

Minkoff said she was swamped with work during a recent vacation "because someone within my company at the time who we thought could handle the work [couldn't], and I spent our vacation working the whole time."

She continued, "And [my daughter] said to me, she's like, 'You're not being a good mom right now.' I was like, 'Great, I'm a failure mom.' And I just said, 'I'm sorry I'm not being a great mom. I need five more days and I'll show up for you, but this is what's happening.'"

Minkoff then turned her daughter's hurtful statement into a life lesson.

"I just explained it to her, these are sometimes things not in my control that I have to do. And I just want you to look at what it also provides for our family," she said. "And so I always, every time like, 'Oh, you're leaving again.' You're just like, 'Well, do you like going to summer camp? Do you like that? We can buy organic food. Well, mommy and daddy have to work for that, so cut us some slack.'"

Minkoff also opened up about how she had to rearrange her priorities after welcoming her daughter Bowie, 9, as well as sons Leonardo, 19 months, Nico, 5, and Luca, 12, with her husband Gavin Bellour, calling life as a parent "the fourth dimension."

"It's a selfless love," she said, adding that "right away I realized I have to change my priorities."

"Prior to having my son, I worked 80, 90 hours. It didn't matter, right? It was just work. I was building my business. It was seven years old, so it needed full attention.," she remembered. "[People] think, 'Oh, I'm going to miss out on things career-wise.' And the honest answer is, you will, because you've made other priorities in your life for that time. And so someone younger, more hungry is going to take some of that place within your career."

"But it's the changes and sacrifices you choose to make."
