'I refused to go to my sister's wedding after she made odd wedding dress demand'
Weddings are often seen as a time for families to come together and celebrate love, but they can also stir up plenty of drama.
One 23-year-old woman found herself at the heart of such a situation when her step-sister asked to wear her wedding dress — a request that sparked a fierce family feud.
In a post shared on Reddit, the woman explained how her refusal to let her step-sister borrow the dress for her own wedding led to a fallout with her family, ultimately resulting in her refusing to attend the wedding.

The drama started a year ago when the woman tied the knot with her husband. Her side of the family, including her stepfather and 26-year-old step-sister, had been involved in the wedding planning.
While her relationship with her mum and stepdad was described as "good," things weren't as smooth with her step-sister, with the two having clashed throughout their childhood over everything from clothes to toys.
Despite their differences, the woman tried to support her sister when she announced her engagement at the woman’s own wedding. She even offered to help with planning, as she had useful contacts from her own big day. Her sister was set to marry just a day after Christmas, and things seemed to be on track — until they weren't.
The woman’s step-sister called her in tears, saying her wedding dress wouldn't arrive in time due to alterations. She had kept the dress a secret, refusing to share what it looked like until the big day. In an effort to help, the woman suggested a few boutiques that might have dresses in time for the wedding. But her sister wasn’t having it, insisting that she didn’t want a “cheap” dress.
Then came the shocker. Out of nowhere, the sister asked if she could wear the woman’s wedding dress. She claimed it would be "perfect" since they were the same size, and she’d always loved the dress when she had seen the woman wear it.
The woman, taken aback, immediately said no, explaining that the dress was emotionally significant to her. But this was not the response her family was expecting. Her phone blew up with messages from her step-sister, her soon-to-be husband, and her stepdad, all telling her how “selfish” she was for refusing the request.
A few days later, the woman agreed to meet her step-sister face to face to discuss the situation. She reiterated that her wedding dress held too much sentimental value for her to lend it out, but her sister became furious, calling her a "selfish cow" and accusing her of being "the most horrible human ever."
Feeling the tension rise, the woman decided to take a step back. As the sister started to cry, she handed the wedding invitation back, telling her she would not be attending the wedding but still wished her well.
While the woman has since been bombarded with criticism from her family, many Reddit users rallied behind her, reassuring her that she had every right to keep her wedding dress for herself. After all, some things are just too personal to share — even with family.
