Reba McEntire is dreaming of a different kind of Christmas this year, and she has a unique holiday tradition that we can seriously get behind.
During an interview with E! News on December 10, the country superstar and The Voice coach opened up about how she plans on spending the holidays with her family and boyfriend Rex Linn. As it turns out, the couple likes to do something different when it comes to Christmas Day. While many will sit down with loved ones to have a festive meal and quality time, Reba revealed she and Rex can instead be found at their local cinema catching the latest movie.
"Rex and I will go see a movie," she told the outlet. "We have our Christmas on Christmas Eve and he likes to go see movies, so we'll do that first thing in the morning before the crowds hit the theaters. Then we'll come back and we'll have our meals. You noticed I said 'meals,' because we'll have lunch and supper and probably a midnight snack. That will be our tradition."
Well, that's certainly a unique way to spend the holidays! As for what Reba and Rex plan on seeing at the movies, she confirmed to the publication they're hoping to catch a showing of the new film The Fire Inside (telling the story of Olympic boxer Claressa "T-Rex" Shields).
But that's not all Reba's doing differently this year. The Happy's Place star is all about decorating an artificial Christmas tree in her house — and the reason behind it dates back to a chore she wasn't thrilled about during her childhood.
"I definitely have an artificial tree," she told 107.9 Rodeo Radio Las Vegas on December 16. "When we were growing up, we’d all go out on the ranch and cut down a Christmas tree, bring it in and then we had to water it every other day – make sure the coffee can was full of water – and the cedar needles got everywhere. So, nowadays I just go with an artificial tree."
What's more, having an artificial Christmas tree means an extended holiday season for Reba. "How long do I leave my Christmas tree and decorations up? Well, after Christmas, I am so in tune with the sparkly lights, I leave the lights on and take the Christmas ornaments off," she added. "It keeps it really festive."
Maybe we need to adopt some of Reba's Christmas traditions for ourselves.
