Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their honeymoon? Everything we know so far
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently enjoying life as newlyweds, with the dust barely settled from the worldwide spectacle that was their royal wedding.
Having completed their first royal engagement just days after the big day, a lavish honeymoon was next on the newlyweds to-do list.
The couple – who haven’t been seen in public since the aforementioned Buckingham Palace garden party on May 22nd – are thought to already be on their romantic holiday.
While the location for Harry and Meghan’s honeymoon has been kept tightly under wraps, there have been rumours that the couple are in Canada or Botswana.
Here’s the down-low on what we know:
Are Harry and Meghan already on their honeymoon?
While Kensington Palace hasn’t revealed anything about the couple’s current whereabouts, it’s thought to be fairly likely that the newlyweds are on their honeymoon.
“These days royal honeymoons are strictly private,” royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams tells Yahoo Style UK. “For reasons of safety and privacy, secrecy is obviously wise.”
He continues: “Harry and Meghan may well be on their honeymoon right now, they want it to be private and who can blame them.”
Grant Harrold, former butler to Prince Charles, agrees telling Yahoo Style UK: “I’m hoping that they do get some private time. The problem is you’re always going to get people who want to have photos of them on their honeymoon and that’s the world we live in.
“Hopefully people will give them space,” he continued. “I think the public is quite supportive as well, I think people will get quite annoyed if they’re not given that privacy.”
It’s probable that the couple jetted off shortly after their appearance at the Buckingham Palace garden party in honour of Prince Charles’ 70th birthday.
However, there’s a slim chance the couple are still residing in Kensington Palace and holding off their honeymoon until next week after the Trooping the Colour on Saturday.
If they are already away, Prince Harry appeared to pause his honeymoon on Monday to announce the location for the 2020 Invictus Games.
In what was likely a pre-written statement, the Duke revealed via Kensington Palace: “I am delighted to announce that The Hague is taking up the challenge of hosting the fifth Invictus Games in 2020. The city will soon become the motivation for hundreds of servicemen and women using the Invictus Games to inspire their recovery from physical and mental injuries.”
The Invictus Games in Canada in 2017 was where Harry and Meghan made their first official outing as a couple.
Where could they be going?
American gossip site TMZ claims the couple have chosen Canada for their romantic escape.
The source told the US news website that the couple will be staying at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Alberta, Canada for their post-wedding getaway.
As for their lodgings, it’s thought the couple will be occupying the 6,000 sq. foot Outlook Cabin – conveniently known as ‘The Royal Retreat’.

The top tier lodgings comes with a enclosed conservatory and veranda, two fireplaces, a large terrace with barbecue and a full kitchen with private catering entrance.
It also includes six bedrooms and six ensuite bathrooms.
Have any other royals stayed at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge?
In 1939, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother stayed at the luxe resort, while Harry’s grandmother also give the lodge her royal seal of approval and stayed in June 2005 with Prince Philip.
Might Harry and Meghan honeymoon in Africa?
The pair are also rumoured to be spending their honeymoon in Namibia, though others speculate they might return to Botswana, where they said they fell in love under the stars.
“Royal watchers, who got both what was considered the likely name of Kate’s baby and of Meghan’s dress designer wrong, have a poor track record of guessing,” Richard Fitzwilliams tells us. “Though Africa, possibly Botswana or Namibia, have long been the favourites.”
Will Harry and Meghan attend the Trooping the Colour this weekend?
If the couple are already away on holiday, it’s thought they’ll return in time for the Trooping the Colour on Saturday 9 June, which commemorates the Queen’s official birthday.
This will be the Harry and Meghan’s second royal engagement as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The ceremony is held annually on the second weekend of June and mark’s the Queen’s official birthday which is on April 21.
The tradition was first started by Kind George II in 1784, who was born in November, but instead of risking his subjects catching a cold, he combined his birthday with the Trooping the Colour in spring.
The key members of the royal family attend the celebrations, and stand on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch the RAF flypast.
Where did the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge honeymoon?
Shortly after their 2011 nuptials, Kate and William headed on a 10-day honeymoon to North Island in the Seychelles, located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of East Africa.
The royal couple are believed to have stayed in a luxury villa on the remotest part of the island.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliam said: “William and Kate tried to keep theirs, in the Seychelles, a secret though the destination was leaked after their arrival.
“There were reports that it was to be a surprise for Kate, the couple had previously visited the Seychelles in 2007 at a pivotal moment in their relationship.”
