Prince Charles mobbed by crowd on street as he meets young people who found work through his charity
The Prince of Wales was mobbed by a crowd during a visit in south London, where he met young people who found work through his charity.
One woman was heard telling Prince Charles that "we appreciate you coming", while others took pictures of the royal.
The prince was joined by Chancellor Rishi Sunak as they visited JD Sports' Walworth branch, to speak to 16 to 24-year-olds who had been helped on to the government's Kickstart Scheme by The Prince's Trust.
Walking down the street, a crowd surrounded the pair and one woman seemed to ask Mr Sunak to take a picture of her and the prince.
The scheme was set up in September 2020 by the chancellor to provide young people with work opportunities, after youth unemployment peaked at around 15% during the early part of the pandemic.
Charles shook hands with members of the crowd before heading inside, where he spoke to those involved in the programme.
The prince, who stood in for his mother during the Queen's Speech on Tuesday, met a number of people including those who worked at the fashion store.
Pav Soor, 24, said he had been rejected from over 400 jobs before joining Marks & Spencer as a Kickstarter.
"It just made me feel like I have no worth," he said of his 18 months out of work.
"It's demoralising."
Mr Soor added he was impressed after speaking to the prince, describing it as "more of a discussion with a friend".
Mr Soor said: "He was interested in our journeys, in our personal journeys. He individually spoke to each of us and asked us how you got here.
"There's a stigma behind a higher power not really being clued with what the younger generation are doing, but I was really glad to see that stigma just wiped away."
Mollie McCaldon, who is a JD Gyms employee, spoke to Charles about her job and said he was "interested in your choices".
Mr Sunak, who was recently seen wearing a pair of £335 trainers from Selfridges, confessed to a JD executive that he had a "weakness for trainers".
He asked one group if they received a store discount and said "wow" when he was told that staff get a 25% discount.
