Perrie Edwards reveals she was born without sense of smell and went diagnosed until kitchen fire

Perrie Edwards has opened up how she was born without a sense of smell - a condition called congenital anosmia - and only learned about her condition when couldn't smell smoke from a kitchen fire.
The Little Mix singer was completely unaware of her lack of smell until danger struck at home. Chatting on the Dish from Waitrose podcast with Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, Perrie shared: "It's so weird. They did so many tests on me growing up, but the thing is, I didn't know I had no sense of smell."
Opening up on the kitchen fire at home when she was younger, the 30 year old said: "I couldn't smell it. Yeah, our kitchen had set on fire. No, I saw the black smoke come under the door. And then I started coughing and then I was like, [gasps], 'cause it takes your breath away."
Perrie's family were luckily unharmed, but it was then that she was taken for tests.
The mum-of-one revealed that she underwent surgery in an attempt to gain a sense of smell, but it was only a temporary fix.
She revealed: "And I had surgery, came out, had big tampons in my nose, recovered for a while. And then I swear to God I could smell coffee. I woke up and smelled the coffee."
Doctors recommended that Perrie have surgery for a second time, but she decided not to. She recalled: "I was like, I'm not going through that again. I don't care. Like, if I had it and lost it, fair enough. But I've never had it, so why care?"
Perrie has opened up after she dropped some new tracks - and fans have speculated she’s written about a fallout between herself and a Little Mix band member.
So far, Perrie has released two songs, Forget About Us and Tears, since leaving Little Mix and becoming a solo artist.
Perrie has teased there is a lot more to come and has spoken about her upcoming album leading fans to wonder if one song is about Jesy Nelson. The pair were part of the band Little Mix for 10 years. But Jesy quit in 2020, just two years before the band went on hiatus.
