People Who Hate Working Out Are More Intelligent, According to Science

Tell us something we don’t know - if the mere thought of going out jogging makes you feel a little sick, you’re probably more intelligent.

A new study published in the Journal of Health Psychology observed 60 students - half of them scored high on a need for ‘cognitive endeavours’ (in other words, they like to think more), while the others scored low.

They also wore ‘activity trackers’ for a week.

During the weekend, the two groups logged roughly equal amounts of activity. And over the course of the week, the trackers found that high ‘cognitive’ scorers were significantly less active.

Keep in mind that 60 is a pretty small sample. But the findings concluded that people tend to be less physically active if they have higher levels of a trait called “need for cognition” or “a tendency to engage in and enjoy effortful cognitive endeavours”.

In other words, they found that big thinkers tend to be less active.

So if you have an active mind but uh, less of an active body, it’s okay - it’s only natural.
