National Kissing Day: Tried & Tested Lipcare Products For The Perfect Pout

It seems there’s a National Day for everything and the Girls On The Ground have been reliably informed that June 19 is National Kissing Day!

There are a huge number of lipcare products in the shops but I have found that the majority of lip balms available don’t do much other than add a bit of temporary softness.

Which lip balms actually work? Here are my top picks to ensure a perfect pout!

If you forget to apply lip balm regularly..

Check out this unique Balmi lip balm £4.99 - it’s a cone shaped balm in a square box, which makes it such an unusual shape and surprisingly fun to apply! Is it a triangle, is it a cube?

After I got this, I was applying it all the time, just because it was so cool! The shea butter and jojoba oil-enriched formula tastes great too - it comes in Raspberry, Strawberry, Mint, Coconut and Blackcurrant!

If you’re worried about what’s in your lip balm..

Invest in the all-natural Burt’s Bees lip balm (£3.69). Given that we probably end up eating half of the stuff applied to our lips, it’s reassuring to know there are no nasties in it.

Loaded with coconut and sunflower oils, the beeswax provides a barrier that seals in hydration and it comes in a whole host of flavours.

Forget about your standard Cherry/Mint/Vanilla trio, Burt’s Bees has exotic, unusual flavours like Pear & Coconut, Acai Berry and Mango - I’m still a big fan of the classic Beeswax too.

And - if you’re looking for a hit of colour - check out their 100% natural lip shimmers too.

If you want anti-ageing protection for your pout..

To prevent premature wrinkles, you need SPF in your lip balm to keep those harmful UV rays at bay!

This No7 Lip & Eye Screen £7.50 provides SPF30 protection without that suncream feel. It’s also got a light shimmer and suitable for use on the eyes -get this in your summer bag now!

TOP TIP: Make sure you apply the SPF slightly outside the lip line to prevent those fine lines from appearing earlier than they naturally do!

And if you’re just looking for do-it-all colour and care..

This Lancome Lip Lover is not cheap at £18 but it really is the best if you just want a one-step wonder.

This revolutionary lip protector applies like a gloss but is so comfortable. You can apply it straight onto dry, cracked lips for an instant hit of smooth-feeling colour and shine.

I love this stuff, I have it in several neutral colours for daytime and also the berry shades for after-hours.

So there you go - we might not be able to plant our lips on David Beckham (voted Most Kissable Man in the UK!) but there’s still a week to work out a cunning plan… or at least prepare your lips for the next pout partner in line!
