Mum’s Creative Search For A Kidney For Her Daughter Might Just Save Her Life

Sometimes, when you want something, you’ve got to take matters into your own hands as Karol Franks realised.

The US mum has decided to ask for help with finding a viable kidney for her daughter in a brilliantly simple way – by turning her car into an advert. Franks has painted the back of her car with her request in the hope that the heavy traffic in her hometown of LA might help find her daughter a match.

“Daughter Needs Kidney, Type O, kidney4jenna@gmail.com,” the mobile advert reads, written in glass paint from Walmart that it’s designed to stay on in the rain.

The ingenious advert was inspired by another person’s similar campaign. [Photo: Facebook]

Franks’ daughter Jenna has been on the transplant list for 15 years, since she was diagnosed with kidney failure, and needs daily dialysis treatments. Franks has been trying to help secure a match for her daughter for years now, but with no luck.

So, after reading about another family who painted the details of their search onto their car, Franks decided to do the same in the hope that it would pay off. And it looks like it might.

A woman tweeted a pic of the car, which had thousands of retweets and around 25 people have already stepped forward to see if they’re a suitable match. Frank’s Facebook page, dedicated to the search, has also proved to be a success with over 6,000 likes and plenty of support and interest.

“This has taken over her entire life and we want more for her, which is why we’re trying everything we can,” says Franks.

The drive to find Jenna a kidney is also set to help thousands of other patients in similar situations. “Thank you for sharing Jenna’s story! This brings awareness to the 101,000 patients in the US, just like Jenna, who wait years for a kidney,” Franks wrote on Facebook.

“If anyone wants to help Jenna or someone else, go to the National Kidney Registry www.kidneyregistry.org and get referred to a transplant hospital near you. Living donors are making miracles happen! ‪#‬‎kidney4jenna”
