Most Instagrammable places to photograph in Tulum, Mexico

The perfect way to start your day is to watch the sunrise above the ocean as you stretch out from your inbound flight! Located on the main beach strip of Tulum, Sanará is easy to cycle to from wherever you’re staying in town. Make sure to grab a delicious smoothie in the café after your morning yoga.

The whole of Coco Tulum is made of white wood and the beachfront is beautiful too – there’s even a shower made of shells (can you see it in the background of the photo in the tree?). But the swings are the real winner, photo wise.

It’s not all beach. Tulum has beautiful jungle shoots too! The amazing cement stairs at Casa de Las Olas make for an impressive photo. The hotel is on the southern end of the beach and also right by the Sian Ka’an Bioreserve, so make sure you check it out after.

Probably the best meal of my life! With a menu that changes daily depending on what the sea and land have to offer that day, there’s a reason Hartwood is normally fully booked. You can email them to reserve, or like I did, head over at 5.30 for the first sitting that is always a walk in.

Aka, Instagram heaven. The streets in the town of Valladolid are beautiful, and not to be missed. We ended up here after a day trip to Chichen Itza on the drive back to Tulum.

Built in the 16^th century, the flagship Coqui Coqui Perfumeria in Valladolid is also a hotel. However, since we don’t all have thousands of pounds to spend a night on a room, make sure to visit the perfume shop at the front of the hotel where concessionaires will help you pick out the perfect scent for you while you ogle at the interior design.

There are thousands of cenotes in Tulum but this one, Yokdzonot, is perhaps the most beautiful. Located only a couple hours outside of Tulum (and a 20 minute drive from Chicen Itza), this most impressive cenote (a natural fresh water pit/sinkhole) offers crystal blue waters which you can swim in amongst a beautiful jungle setting. Fun fact: the water from this cenote and others are what comes out the taps in most area hotels – it’s that clean!

Tulum is situated on the Caribbean coast and the ruins here date all the way back to AD 564. If you visit the Tulum Ruins, make sure you also take advantage of the impressive ocean views on the lookout.

Start your day off right with yoga, and end it with a margarita. You can miss Papaya Playa Project on the beach. It’s the perfect place to watch the sunset and dance the night away.

Obviously, this trip was very stressful. So I booked in for my most photogenic massage table ever at Azulik Tulum. The whole hotel is constructed of wood, built about a cenote (which you can see the water of in the photo) and doesn’t use any electric lights in the rooms (to stop baby turtles from heading for the land rather than the sea when they hatch).

Instagram fodder if I ever saw it, the interior of Posada Margherita looks like you’ve walked into the home of a vase, bowl and coke bottle collector. Added bonus: they serve the best homemade pasta in town.

Want to eat breakfast and watch the sunrise? Of course you do. The impressive lookout from the restaurant at Zamas is impossible to take a bad photo of.

Chichen Itza may be the most visited archaeological site in Mexico, but don’t let that turn you off. It’s also one of the great mythical cities that dates back to pre-Columbian era of the Maya people. With an incredible history, it’s well worth a visit. And, you know, it makes for a pretty photo too.
