Samantha Cameron complains she couldn't afford designer clothes (and we're struggling to sympathise)
It can be easy to forget your privileged lifestyle. Or so some people would have us believe.
The latest person to cause outrage is none other than Samantha Cameron.
The millionaire businesswoman has complained of not being able to afford designer clothes – despite having a job with an annual salary of over £400,000.
Speaking at a festival for women entrepreneurs, Cameron – who set up her own fashion label last year – explained the reasoning behind her new business venture.
“I had been working in the luxury/fashion business for a long time and didn’t have disposable income, with childcare and mortgage etc., to buy designer clothes,” she told attendees.
“But obviously, working in the fashion industry, I wanted to find workwear and daywear that had a bit of a fashion edge, that felt a bit cleaner, younger, more modern than what was available. So it was a feeling that there was a gap in the market.”
Of course, people are finding it hard to feel sorry for the former prime minister’s wife who previously held the role of creative director at luxury stationery company Smythson and is heir to a multimillion pound fortune.
