Meghan Markle's half-sister Samantha apologises to the Duchess of Sussex on Jeremy Vine

Samantha Markle has apologised to her half sister, the Duchess of Sussex, during an appearance on Jeremy Vine on 5 on Monday.

When asked by the host what her message would be to Meghan, she explained that her side of the family was “hurt at not being included or invited to the wedding.”

Samantha, who shares the same dad with Meghan (Thomas Markle) said: “I felt as though it could have all been nipped in the bud if everyone was included and we just all agreed to move forward with positive resolve.

“The hurt feelings wouldn’t have snowballed.

“Believe it or not, it doesn’t mean we love you any less.”

“I just think that families can be this way, when there’s confusion and when people are hurt so moving forward, I apologise and wish things could be different.”

It has been reported that Meghan and Samantha have not had contact with each other for around 10 years.

Since the former Suits actress and Prince Harry went public with their romance in late 2017, Samantha Markle (also known as Samantha Grant) has frequently spoken out against her in TV interviews and posted controversial tweets.

Jeremy grilled her about her insults on the social media site and asked her why she isn’t reaching out to the Duchess in private.

He asked: “You want to shame her, don’t you?”

Samantha said she wanted to “protect” her father.

She added: “Perhaps it was British royal protocol that you say nothing, but the public were making a mockery out of the family and I felt like it had to stop.

“Perhaps I was frustrated, I was lashing out more at the media.”

Samantha also said a tweet made about Prince Harry on his birthday last month, in which she appeared to compare him to a hamster, “was meant to be funny.”

She is believed to have flown to Italy last week, before making her way to the UK.

Although she has not been paid for the interview, her appearance on the show has been met with criticism from the public.

One Twitter user @LizzyBeynon said: “Refusing to watch #jeremyvine today as the toxic Markle is on the show, just trying to make money off her sister by portraying her in such a negative light. Horrible woman. I could never imagine speaking about my siblings in the way she speaks about hers.”

Jeremy Vine airs weekdays at 9.15am on Channel 5
