Love Island’s Joey Essex slammed as 'ruthless' by co-star who reveals he wanted 'showmance'
Joey Essex, the former TOWIE star, claimed he joined Love Island to find love, but his ex-girlfriends aren't entirely convinced.
The 33 year old reality TV star is currently soaking up the sun in Spain and stirring up drama with his fellow Love Island contestants. Fans are lapping up the on-screen tension, and it seems Joey is having a blast in the Mallorca villa amidst all the drama. He's currently getting acquainted with Samantha Kenny, but fans suspect he got 'the ick' after discovering she's a massive TOWIE fan - a show he starred in from 2011 to 2013.
After leaving TOWIE, Joey immediately joined the cast of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, alongside Joe Swash and Amy Willerton. During their stint on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2013, Miss Universe Great Britain's Amy and Joey sparked rumours of a romance, reports the Mirror.
They were inseparable during the show, often seen cuddling, showering together, and massaging each other. However, their supposed romance quickly fizzled out post-show, with Amy claiming Joey "changed" just days after filming ended.
While some fans speculated their jungle flirtation was merely for the cameras, Amy, 31, insists they did enjoy a few dates post-show before ultimately parting ways. She now claims she was pressured to continue the "showmance," but refused as she wanted "to have something real."
Chatting about his latest experience on Love Island airing on ITV2, she revealed to The Sun, "I'm sure he'll have fun. He's a sweet guy, but I learnt that he is quite ruthless when it comes to his career. I hope he really is ready to meet someone. He'd be a loving partner, but only when he is ready." On the other hand, many viewers thought that Samantha from Love Island was totally "fangirling" over Joey. She openly admitted recently that she loves watching TOWIE.
When she started quoting the show, her fellow islander Ciaran Davies, 21, joked: "Samantha, I can't lie - I feel like you know more about Joey than Joey knows about himself."
Joey couldn't help but tease, "She's obviously been like researching me and everything." To which she quickly defended herself saying, "I was just a big TOWIE fan. Leave me alone!" Fans were quick to notice a shift in Joey's dynamics with Samantha and took to social media to express their thoughts. One wrote: "You can tell Samantha is giving Joey the ICK."
Another chimed in: "Joey cannot even hide the ick he caught from finding out Samantha is a fan." A third commented: " You can really see Joey is starting to go off Samantha."
