Lorraine Kelly breaks silence on baby news and she already has a sweet nickname
Lorraine Kelly has shared her excitement over becoming a grandmother for the first time. The TV presenter's daughter Rosie Smith is expecting her first child with partner Steve.
Lorraine, 64, returned to her ITV show on Monday, 15 April follower her week-long Easter break, which saw Christine Lampard takeover hosting duties on the show. While away from her self-titled programme, Lorraine's daughter Rosie, 29, revealed she is pregnant with her first baby - meaning Lorraine is set to become a grandparent.
The mum-of-one wasted no time in publicly addressing the happy news on her show on Monday. She admitted she's already come up with a nickname for herself, and is "very excited".
Speaking to Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid, Lorraine said: "I’m a granny, how exciting is that. Granny Smith! Because my married name is Smith so I’m granny Smith!" Susanna laughed along, and said: "Yes, you're granny Smith!"
Lorraine added: "We’re all very excited. It’s huge and wonderful and yeah, it's cheered everybody up which is great. And thank you to everyone who has sent me messages, it was really kind of you. It means a lot."
Susanna, 53, responded: "What a special moment and congratulations to Rosie." Lorraine couldn't hide her excitement as she continued to beam and discuss her daughter's pregnancy.
Rosie announced the happy news on social media on Friday, 5 April. She took to Instagram to share a photograph which showed off her blossoming baby bump, as she showcased her changing body in a figure hugging black ensemble.
The mum-to-be delightedly told her followers: “We could not be more excited - you’re already so loved little one.”
She then went on to share a second image, which showed a sonogram scan of her child at 12 weeks - alongside a caption which indicated it was now the size of a fig.
Sharing their congratulations with the star on social media, many well wishers raced online to share their warmest congratulations to the parents-to-be. Lorraine shared a sweet message to her daughter online, as she re-posted a picture of Rosie's scan.
"THE most exciting thing to have ever happened in our family! Cannot wait to be a granny and so proud of Rosie and her Steve. It’s the best news EVER!" the TV presenter sweetly penned.
