Lisa McGee, the genius behind hilarious Northern Irish sitcom Derry Girls, which launched the career of Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan, has something new in store for us - a fresh Irish comedy/thriller. The 43 year old legend of screenwriting has her hands full with an upcoming Netflix original titled 'How to Get to Heaven From Belfast'.

Touted as "a dark, dangerous and hilarious odyssey through Northern Ireland", this is already setting expectations high.

In the series we'll see The Dry star Roisin Gallagher, Unforgotten's very own Sinead Keenan and Caoilfhionn Dunne who stunned us in 'A Thousand Blows'. They'll be playing childhood friends Saoirse, Robyn and Dara respectively - all now in their late thirties, who reconnect following the death of another friend.

Looking eagerly towards this project, Lisa shared: "I couldn't be more excited to start production on 'How To Get To Heaven From Belfast'."

Dishing on her characters, she revealed: "I've loved writing Saoirse, Robyn and Dara - three flawed, funny women who are about to embark on the most thrilling and terrifying adventure of their lives. A mystery full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing and make you laugh out loud. Let's go girls! ".

It was these kind of strong female leads which helped Derry Girls become the success it was, taking home not one but two BAFTAs, and an Emmy.

However, despite its accolades, there were some who had no plans of returning; break-out star Nicola Coughlan, who we now know better from Netflix's Bridgerton, squashed any rumours of reprising her role of Clare Devlin for a fourth season, claiming that she didnt want to taint what had come before.

She revealed to the BBC: "'Derry Girls was amazing and I think it was a real three and done and it was wrapped up in a perfect package. I wouldn't want to go back because I wouldn't want to taint it."

Although she's not looking to reprise her role in the hit Channel 4 series, Nicola is eager to team up with her Derry Girls castmates on a different venture. She said: "I would like to work with them again in another iteration."
