Corrie fans 'work out' identity of Roy's mystery visitor as huge return 'rumbled'

Corrie viewers are speculating that Hayley Cropper might make a surprise appearance in the upcoming episodes as Roy is rushed to hospital.

In scenes set to air next week, Roy Cropper (played by David Neilson) leaves the cafe to deliver some homemade soup to Shona Platt (portrayed by Julia Goulding), only to be accosted by a group of hooligans.

Shona feigns illness, prompting Roy to reluctantly return to work to avoid leaving the business understaffed, but this strategy backfires.

The gang starts hurling insults at him and he collapses. Carla Connor (Alison King) rushes to his side, but it's evident he's in pain.As an ambulance arrives, Shona is recounting the incident to Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher), reports the Express.

Nina and Shona rush into the cafe to find Roy receiving CPR. At the hospital, a mysterious visitor appears at Roy's bedside. He drifts in and out of consciousness while the visitor remains with him before vanishing.

When Roy tells Nina about his unexpected visitor, she questions if he's hallucinating. Who could he possibly have seen?

Some Corrie fans speculate that the Weatherfield icon might envision his late wife Hayley as a figment of his imagination. Actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, who portrayed Hayley for 16 years on the ITV soap, retired her character's iconic red anorak a decade ago.

Corrie fans were heartbroken when Hayley was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July 2013, following a CT scan. In a series of poignant moments, Roy and Hayley pledged to cherish their remaining time together after receiving her diagnosis. They famously made plans to visit all the landmarks and have a dance in the Tower Ballroom.

In tear-jerking episodes broadcast in January 2014, Hayley passed away in Roy's embrace. But now, there's buzz among fans that Hayley might appear as a figment of Roy's imagination in an upcoming episode.

Corrie fans have taken to social media to discuss the possibility of a special encounter between Hayley and Roy. On X, one viewer posted: "Some fans are speculating that Roy's 'visitor' next week might be Hayley. Getting a Roy/Hayley scene would be beautiful."

Another fan speculated: "Strong indication that Hayley's back next week? #Corrie", and a third added: "I get the feeling that he may have seen a premonition of Hayley. #Corrie #CoronationStreet @itvcorrie."

A Reddit user also expressed hope: "I hope it's Hayley. I'd love to see her back even for a minute." While someone else responded: "I thought so too at first, but then I thought if they want to bring her back in a vision, maybe they should save her for a more impactful moment than Roy's 15th visit to the hospital this year? ".

Roy has been finding it difficult to readjust to life after his wrongful imprisonment for Lauren's murder. As for who will turn up at the hospital, fans will just have to stay tuned.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
