Line of Duty series seven might be getting official confirmation sooner rather than later, star Adrian Dunbar has teased.

The sixth series was the biggest for the BBC drama, with an ending that left AC-12 in a precarious (yet dramatically exciting) position – but news about a follow-up has been thin on the ground ever since.

However, the Ted Hastings actor expects it to be properly announced in the near future, telling the hosts of Good Morning Britain: "We really hope so. I mean everyone is kind of gunning for it, so yeah. I'm sure the public want it.

"So we're keeping our fingers crossed. Within the next few weeks or couple of months we might hear something, so that will be good."

The sixth series seemingly unmasked Ian Buckells as the true identity of the mysterious 'H', but Dunbar previously stated that the bumbling bent copper isn't the real one.

"He's not 'H'," he said while speaking to RadioTimes. "We just got the guy we could actually pin a charge on. We didn't get 'H', we got Buckells."

"[Chief Constable Osborne is] probably where it's heading, unless there's another twist and someone's pulling his strings."

Series six saw Osborne continue to scrape anti-corruption funding away to the bone, and installed Patricia Carmichael as the interfering head of the team.

Considering he hadn't been seen since series 3, where he lied his way to the top job, his reintroduction seems to hit that there are big plans in store for him.

Line of Duty series 1-6 are available on BBC iPlayer, and DVD and Blu-ray boxsets are also available to buy now.
