“I was just drawing a lot of inspiration from the idea of an American gangster suiting,” he said. “This collection really is infused with the level of opulence and power dressing from the late, like, 1970s and ‘80s. It’s all about sharp tailoring and really rich textures and just a sense of rebellion and glamour.”

Smith put his own daring take on houndstooth, creating pieces that brought an excitement and freshness to the traditional fabric with styles like an opulent fur houndstooth coat, an ultra-mini cropped set and a mesh catsuit that embodied his signature sensual aesthetic.

“It was really exciting to be able to play with houndstooth after much research and history, like it’s been utilized so many times in so many different ways, but every reference I came across seemed so serious,” he said. “So this was an opportunity for me to really have fun and create a collection that felt really punchy and playful, and still vibrant and sexy.”

There were new takes on power dressing in styles like a tweed blazer dress, and a cropped blazer paired with ultra-flared trousers and metallic dress shirts. The pieces showed his ability to interpret more mature styles and make them youthful and exciting with his silhouettes and fabric choices.

The collection was rounded out by standout eveningwear, like a netted dress embellished with beadwork and a sheer eggplant-hued flowing style that continued the collection’s air of sensuality.

The lineup showed Smith’s understanding of his clientele and design codes and how he’s able to mix them with traditional styles to make them new and exciting.
