King Charles Wishes Son William a Happy Birthday With Sweet Throwback Photo
Happy birthday to Prince William!
The Prince of Wales turns 41 years old today—June 21, 2023—and his royal family members are making sure to celebrate him.
King Charles III’s Instagram account this morning shared a rare, candid photo of the monarch and his eldest son laughing together at Charles’s coronation, which took place in May. The prince—dressed in his signature navy suit—seems to be tying his father’s golden robe in the sweet shot.
“Wishing The Prince of Wales a very happy birthday today! 🎈📷 @chrisjacksongetty,” the caption reads.
William was by his father’s side as Charles was crowned king in the historic ceremony, and vowed to serve him. “I, William, Prince of Wales, pledge my loyalty to you and faith and truth I will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb. So help me God,” he said, in a traditional speech known as the Homage of Royal Blood.
It’s unclear what William is doing to mark his big day today, but it does come after a busy period for him. The royal visited St George’s Park on Tuesday to meet with the Lionesses—England’s women’s national football team—and team manager Sarina Wiegman, ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. And two days prior, he celebrated Father’s Day with wife Princess Catherine and their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Kate, meanwhile, has been busy with engagements of her own, most recently attending the reopening of the National Portrait Gallery in London.
