My Kid Drinks Out of a Wine Glass and Yours Should, Too
Welcome to Cubby ❤️, our series where we share the awesome parent-approved products we personally use and recommend 100%.
Most families, myself included, probably have a designated “kid drawer” full of colorful plastic cups and dishes. Our daughter and any kids eating at our house eat and drink out of items from the drawer while the adults get ceramic plates and real glassware. Given how many times the kids drop glasses or plates, I’m glad there are shatterproof things to use!
But when we set the table for the holidays or a special occasion, those plastic cups stick out like a sore thumb amongst our wine glasses and dinnerware. I put up with it for years, until I stumbled on a better-looking solution that works well for the whole family.

The Best “Grown-Up” Drinking Glasses for Kids
As my daughter went from toddlerhood to now being almost ten, she recently started to reject our colorful kid’s cups, saying she wanted something more grown-up. My husband came up with the genius idea to let her start using our govino outdoor wine glasses, which was a good compromise: They look like a wine glass, but we didn’t have to worry if she dropped it because they’re made out of Tritan polymer and won’t break. Plus, they have a cute thumb-notch that’s great for smaller hands to get a really good grip!
I purchased our first set of outdoor wine glasses from govino a few years ago to use by the pool in our apartment complex for wine and cocktails since glass was prohibited. We picked these glasses because the closest thing we could find to real glass and they had lots of pros: they’re stemless (it gets windy in San Francisco!), dishwasher-safe, BPA-free, and clear. Our first set has stayed wonderfully clear (no scratches or filming) over the years even after many trips through the dishwasher. The latest versions, which we also own, have a thinner lip which make them feel even closer to real glass than most outdoor glasses I’ve tried.
I’ve happily retired the kid drawer and love the fact that we can use our govinos for both kids and outdoor use. While we have both the sixteen and twelve-ounce sizes, the smaller ones are better for little hands and the smaller pours we give to kids. These glasses also look nice on a table set with real wine glasses, so we’ll be breaking them out for the holidays too!
