Woman Woke Up Sick and Made Her Husband Leave Work to Return Her House Keys. Here’s Why
“My husband has a habit of forgetting/ignoring things I say. I get very annoyed that he’s taken the house keys attached to the car keys with him," the Reddit user said
A woman recently voiced her frustrations with her husband continuously taking their house keys with him — and things boiled over resulting in her demanding he return them despite already being at work.
In a post on Reddit’s “Am I the A------?” forum, the woman detailed how her husband’s actions led her to insist that he return home while he was in the middle of a meeting.
“My husband has a habit of forgetting/ignoring things I say. I WFH and am always there to unlock the front door for my husband when he gets back from work, so the couple of times I’ve needed the car, I get very annoyed that he’s taken the house keys attached to the car keys with him. This has happened a few times, he’ll lock all the house doors in the morning and go off to work with the car keys so I can neither leave the house nor drive anywhere,” the woman said.

To rectify the situation, or so she thought, the woman said that she “made sure we have two sets of keys and the second pair must always be on the console table for emergencies.”
Unfortunately, this solution didn’t work out as well as she anticipated.
“The problem is my husband started keeping the emergency keys in his work bag and if he took the car anywhere, I was again locked in the house. This recently happened again when my family was coming over and they stood at a locked door while I searched the house for his work bag,” the Reddit user said.
Things reached a fever pitch when the woman said she woke up sick and once again, her husband had taken the extra sets of house and car keys, leaving her trapped in her home.

“What made me so angry was that I’ve told him this a million times and I could have had a massive emergency. He was so calm and apologetic on the phone, but that just made me angrier. I’m sick of him never listening,” she said.
Resorting to extreme measures, the woman then furiously called her husband at work.
“So I lost it and demanded he come home immediately and drop the keys back because I need to go to the chemist. He started apologizing and saying he has a meeting at work about to start, but I told him this is not a discussion and I expect him back home right now because I’m sick of repeating myself,” the woman said.
Perhaps taking a bit to cool down, the woman now questions if she overreacted to her husband’s mistake.
“He said he’s on his way back but I feel so awful for stressing him out while he’s at work and making him take a 40 minute journey back. But I’m also so desperate to be heard the first damn time, exactly how I listen and respect his wishes.”
Fellow Reddit users appeared to understand where the woman was coming from.
“The fact that you found a solution to this issue before and your husband literally took it with him to leave you in the same crappy spot is wild to me. Like, is this a control thing?” one user said.
“I think you did the right thing by making him return home. Maybe now he will remember and / or be motivated to upgrade your house lock,” another added.

A third user noted that the woman solved the issue by getting a second set of keys, but her husband continued to take them.
“You went out of your way to solve this one, right down to a 2nd set of keys. He’s welcome to make a 3rd set just for you to keep in your purse if he didn’t like that 40 min drive back home today,” they said.
