Now, as much as we loved and will always love Friends, what we arguably love even more is the unbreakable bond between Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green in the hit '90s sitcom, and Courteney Cox, who played Monica Geller.

The latest demonstration of their friendship came on Saturday (15 June), when Jen paid a tear-jerking Instagram tribute to Courteney on the latter's 60th birthday (yes, Monica is now 60, and we can't believe it either).

She posted a carousel of sweet, nostalgic photos of the two together, but it was the heartfelt caption that got us reaching for the tissues.

'Celebrating this powerful, magical, mystical, interesting, interested, ferociously talented girl today! My sweet CC,' Jen wrote. 'She's funny like no other, STUNNING on the inside and out. Independent in the most gorgeous way, cares for everyone even if she doesn't know you. Terrified of dogs even though I've never known her NOT to have at least two of them. Fiercely loyal to the end.'

Jen continued, referencing Courteney's interior design skills and Monica-esque attention to detail. 'She'll redecorate a room like nobody's business,' she said. 'Spot a smudge on a window from a mile (literally) away. She doesn't care what other people think! I can't imagine a world without her. It's one of my great honors to call her one of my best friends for life...happy happy birthday CC. I love you!'

Predictably, Courteney was moved to tears by her BFF's words, replying, 'Wow well I'm in tears. That's the sweetest thing I've ever read. I love you so much', followed by five red heart emojis.

Courteney's daughter Coco, 20, who is shown as a baby cuddling Jen and her mum, also replied to the tribute, writing 'I love you Nuna' – such a cute nickname for Jen, who is reportedly Coco's godmother.

The star has five years to go until she catches Courteney up. When she turned 55 in February, Courteney wrote 'Happy birthday my sweet Jenny Louise. I don't know why I call her that...but I sure do love you'.

Might their friendship actually be the greatest Hollywood love affair?
