Jason Manford is joining the BBC's Morning Live - after saying he wouldn't want a spot presenting This Morning.

The 42-year-old star said he would "bring chaos to the sofa" as a presenter on the long-running show, which is presented by Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton.

He will begin his presenting duties alongside Gaby Roslin this Friday before joining Helen on Wednesday next week.

Comedian and Waterloo Road actor Jason, famous for appearing on shows such as 8 out of 10 Cats, is appearing as a guest co-host and will appear live from the BBC's Salford studios.

He said: “I’m delighted to have been asked to guest co-host Morning Live this week. I always love supporting a Manchester based show and every time I’ve been on as a guest, the team have always been a real pleasure to work with."

The star added: "I’m looking forward to bringing a little chaos to the sofa once we go live!”

Jason ruled himself out of the This Morning job in the wake of Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield's departure last year.

He told Metro: "‘I’m quite a night owl. It doesn’t quite fit in with stand-up, which involves working in the evenings.

"Maybe I would have done it 20 years ago when I was a bit younger and could burn the candle at both ends. I definitely need a nice sleep, and not early starts."

Morning Live editor Emma Morris added: “We are thrilled to be welcoming Jason to the Morning Live team in the coming weeks.

"He is already a good friend of the show and it goes without saying he’s an incredibly entertaining and experienced presenter. I just know our audience is going to love him!”
