James Martin issues rare health update as he returns to TV after cancer battle

James Martin has given fans a rare glimpse into his health journey during Monday's episode of Lorraine, where he also debuted an unexpected accessory on TV for the first time.

Chatting with Lorraine Kelly about his successful tour, which was seven years in the making, the conversation turned to his current wellbeing. Lorraine, 64, enquired: "Things are good? Everything is good right now?"

James, 51, responded with positive news: "Yes, the stitches have fallen out, as you know, the last time you were on, I was in the middle of operations. As we speak, the stitches have fallen out of my body at the moment and that's all clear, onwards and upwards!"

Lorraine expressed her joy, saying: "I'm really pleased, it's great great news!" James has been open about his battle with facial cancer and the surgeries he has had.

Previously, James had opened up about his battle with facial cancer and the surgeries he's undergone. Last year he told fans: "Since then it has returned on several occasions and I have to have regular treatments."

Elsewhere in the interview, James spoke about a rather bold fashion choice as he opted for an unusual hat for his appearance, reports the Mirror. He remarked: "This is the first time I've worn a hat on TV, [the] guys there at the back said wear it!" Lorraine was all for it, enthusing: "I'm loving the hat!"

The TV chef also shared details of his upcoming tour, although he admitted he isn't sure what will be included. James expressed: "People always ask me, what the tour is all about and I don't quite know myself even after four tours! It's a bit of everything... if you think it's a Saturday morning show it's not!

"It's a mix of comedy, music, quick-paced action, essentially putting together a dish every eight minutes or so, maybe even six minutes! There's storytelling too. For some reason, it works wonderfully on a massive stage. Seven years ago, the team at Live Nation approached me about taking this on the road."

While James chatted happily about his tour, health and TV show, he remained tight-lipped on his romantic life. The chef has gone public with his new girlfriend Kim Johnson after ending his 12-year romance with ex Louise Davies. The pair were first reported to be dating earlier this year.

Despite James' decade-long relationship with Louise, they never married and he admitted he had no regrets over not tying the knot. He told the Sunday People: "No, it doesn't interest me in the slightest, mainly because I've catered for so many weddings, really. I admire people who do it, that's fine, but I'm quite happy. I don't need to spend 60 grand on a day, no, I'm more than happy thanks."
