ITV chiefs have issued a stark warning to Coronation Street and Emmerdale enthusiasts over social media scams.

Devotees of the iconic soaps are being duped by fake social media profiles on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, which they mistakenly believe belong to their favourite soap stars. However, these profiles are nothing but fakes.

Soap celebs such as Alison King, famed for her role as Carla on Corrie, and Kate Ford, known as Tracey on screen, are just some of the names who have been impersonated online. And now ITV bosses have addressed the fans directly, cautioning them about this online ruse.

The cautionary message stated: "Please be mindful that the Coronation Street and Emmerdale actors are often impersonated on social media by scammers who set up fake accounts on platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok and Telegram."

"As producers of both programmes, we feel we should warn viewers that this is happening, and noticeably more frequently of late.

"Please take great care when conversing on social media and be vigilant about these fake accounts by reporting them to the appropriate platform", reports the Mirror.

It comes as ITV has confirmed that both Emmerdale and Coronation Street will be taking a break from their usual Friday night slots to make way for the Euro 2024 football match.

Meanwhile, Coronation Street's Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, is rumoured to be swapping the cobbles for the dance floor as she's tipped to join this year's Strictly Come Dancing line-up. The 73 year old soap icon recently announced her departure from the ITV soap after a whopping five decades, sparking speculation about her next move.

Meanwhile, bookies have given Helen odds of 8/1 to join the BBC dancing show, following in the footsteps of Corrie stars Ellie Leach and Kym Marsh.

She's also been given odds of 10/1 to appear on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and Celebrity Big Brother.

However, Helen is yet to confirm these rumours. Speaking about her exit from Coronation Street, she said: "This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world,".

She continued: "I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding. I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew."
