There’s big, and bad, news for all soap fans as the Euro 2024 airing on ITV has resulted in a big schedule change for both Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

ITV have made big changes to their listings to make way for the matches hitting the screens.

The latest episode of Manchester-based soap Corrie was axed on Friday 14 June, and it will remain off-air on Monday 17 June while the Austria v France takes its space. Emmerdale will also remain off-screen as the match also takes up its usual slot as coverage.

But not all hope is lost for soap fans who can catch up with a double bill of Emmerdale from 8pm, and Coronation Street will follow afterwards on Tuesday 18 June. Both soaps will then air again on Wednesday 19 June and Friday 21 June.

But some fans have taken to social media with a suggestion they believe would solve all the problems. One viewer wrote: 'Put Corrie and Emmerdale on ITV2 then, no biggie is it?’.

A second commented: 'It's about time this nonsense stopped, there is no need to cancel Corrie for football, there are enough channels for both.'

A third said: 'Why don't you put the episodes on @ITVX early'.

And it’s not just the soaps that have been affected, ITV favourites Tipping Point and The Chase have also been taken off air for Tuesday 18 June in order to accommodate the racing a Royal Ascot also begins.

This week in Coronation Street, Toyah Battersby and Nick Tilsley continue to sneak around behind the back of Leanne Battersby - who is still being taken in by a cult.

Also Bethany Platt is tasked with writing an article in support of Corey Brent which leaves Abi Franklin horrified.

Cassie Plummer gets a new job caring for Ken Barlow - and it doesn’t get off to the best start.

In Emmerdale, Matty Barton struggles to adjust to life in prison where he’s being held on remand for stabbing Samson Dingle. Back in the village, Moira takes matters into her own hands to get justice for her son.

Belle Dingle opens up to her midwife about wanting a termination and leaves Tom King in the dark about her decision.

Nicky Miligan is determined to distance himself from his parents and floats the idea of moving away with Suni Sharma.

And Claudette Anderson encourages Manpreet Sharma to fight for her relationship with Charles Anderson.
