Fans of ITV's The 1% Club were left scratching their heads over a question that seemed to have multiple correct answers, causing quite the stir on social media.
Lee Mack, known for his sharp wit, hosts the Saturday night quiz show where contestants are tested with a series of brain-teasers, with the aim of identifying the top 1% who can solve the final puzzle in just 30 seconds.
The game begins simply enough, with 90% of viewers expected to get the first question right, but as the show progresses, the questions become increasingly difficult, culminating in the ultimate challenge that only the smartest can hope to answer.
However, this week's episode saw controversy not over the tense finale, but over a question from the 30% round that had viewers up in arms. It was as follows: "Amrit and his grandad share the same birthday. Their birthday balloons arrive muddled up. Amrit's grandad is three times older than him. How old is Amrit?".
Presented with four golden balloons, the assumed answer was that Amrit is 26 years old, making his grandad a youthful 78.
But some astute viewers suggested another possible solution. One fan messaged the show's Instagram to argue: "My other half is adamant that his answer of 29 is also right."
They explained their reasoning: "There's no string on those balloons, therefore you could turn the 6 upside down. 3x29=87 What do you reckon? Was he still in, or was he out of the game?".
The 1% Club viewers were left utterly astounded when contestants faced what's been dubbed the toughest question to date. During a recent episode, host Lee Mack, 55, announced that a record had been broken after the time was up for a particularly challenging question.
The brain-teaser caused more players to pass than attempt an answer, marking a first for the ITV quiz show.
The tricky question appeared at the 60% difficulty level, which is the ninth question out of fifteen. Lee shared that a whopping 39 contestants chose to pass rather than risk their spot in the competition by getting it wrong.
He said: "We lost four people on that one. Here's an interesting thing you lot have just broke a record on The 1% Club."
"Because four people went out but it's not only four people that didn't know it. 39 people used a pass. 39. I think that's the only time ever on the history of this show more people used a pass than actually knew the answer. I'm genuinely shook."

With options like CORD, NORM, NOUN, and MOON, contestants were perplexed.
