Instagram Will Soon Let You Filter Your Own Comment Streams

It’s a shame when you’ve just uploaded the perfect picture to Instagram, but it receives some less-than perfect comments.

But whether it’s spammers or trolls that are bothering you, your feed could soon be cleared of them as the picture sharing site will soon give you the ability to filter your own comment streams.

You’ll also be allowed to disable comments altogether, so you won’t even have to look at any if you don’t want to.

Of course Instagram already has rules in place when it comes to comments they consider offensive or threatening. But passive aggression from old housemates and colleagues? It won’t exactly flag up.

As per usual with these things, high-profile accounts will get to use the feature first as it goes live in the coming weeks, then all users will see the change in the coming months.

For the undecided, never fear; you’ll be able to switch off comments on a post-by-post basis.

“Our goal is to make Instagram a friendly, fun and, most importantly, safe place for self expression,“ Nicky Jackson, head of public policy at Instagram, told The Washington Post.

"We have slowly begun to offer accounts with high volume comment threads the option to moderate their comment experience.

“As we learn, we look forward to improving the comment experience for our broader community.”
