Inside Dior's star-studded New York show
For Dior's pre-autumn/winter 2024 collection, the house decided to pay tribute to the Big Apple and stage a catwalk show at the Brooklyn Museum, inviting the likes of Rosamund Pike, Michelle Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy to sit on the front row. The collection – which was an homage to both Paris and New York ("the two cities where anything is possible") – saw Maria Grazia Chiuri incorporate prints of the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower onto clothing, while the silhouette paid tribute to androgynous style icon, Marlene Dietrich.
"The bridge between both cultures is Marlene Dietrich, a charismatic, contrarian actress, attached to Dior, in life and on screen," explained the house. "Maria Grazia Chiuri drew inspiration from her to build a collection that fuses the Dior silhouette with the diva’s phantasmagorical presence and boyish allure...Dietrich’s masculine suits provoked scandal, asserting, let us not forget, a woman’s right to choose her attire as she pleases."
