Dannii Minogue announces she 'identifies as queer' in emotional update on love life
I Kissed a Girl presenter Dannii Minogue has opened up about her love life, revealing that she "identifies as queer" ahead of the new show's launch.
Dannii - the 52-year-old sister of Kylie Minogue - spoke about her new BBC Three show I Kissed a Girl on Thursday. The series sees 10 single women attempt to find love in an luxury Italian villa by kissing one another before they speak.
Speaking at the show's launch, Dannii said that the show is "so important" for representation. "There hasn't been a show for the girls in the reality gay dating world," the Daily Mail reported.
"It's like we need this to happen. I'm hoping that there are parties up and down the country."
After the girls in the series made it clear that they fancy the Australian pop star in the first episode, Dannii declared that she also identifies as "queer".
"I identify as queer in a weird way," she said, after one contestant - Amy from Surrey - asked if she was attracted to women.
"You girls are hot. You know it. I love it. I'm here for it. Is that an answer?" Dannii replied.
Becoming emotional, Dannii went onto say: "You girls are so brave and amazing and have brought so much to it. I could never do what you have done.
"I will always be in awe of what has happened and what we've created. I feel so proud. You're stepping forward, and you're the first crew of girls representing in this space, and it is big."
The new series, which is narrated by TikTok star Charley Marlowe, promote itself as the UK's first dating show "for girls who like girls" and promises to "serve drama and smash stereotypes" across 10 episodes.
Dannii is also the host of BBC Three's I Kissed a Boy, which made history as the UK’s first gay dating show back in 2023. Speaking about I Kissed a Girl, Dannii said that she's excited to be back.
"They are open and honest in their search for love, funny and surprising, so get ready for a whole rollercoaster of emotions. I genuinely laughed and cried watching all the antics in the Masseria."
I Kissed a Girl launches on Sunday 5th May on BBC iPlayer, with episodes airing every Sunday and Monday night at 9pm on BBC Three.
