There's much more positive than negative about saying the words, 'I could have done better.' We can be our own harshest critics. Often, what we're critical of is unfounded. As wonderful as hindsight is, it can cause us to doubt ourselves when we ought to administer a well-deserved pat on the back. Even if one isn't forthcoming from a particular person, you should feel proud of and optimistic about the position you're in now. Sure, there's room for improvement. There always is.
