Hollywood actor John Goodman looked unrecognisable after shedding an incredible 200lbs in weight as he was spotted in New York with a dramatically different physique on Wednesday.

The Flintstones star, 71, was snapped looking svelte as he showcased his newly slimmed-down figure in a green hoodie, jeans and slip-on shoes.

John and his wife Anna Beth Goodman, 55, were spotted after they flew into John F Kennedy International Airport, with the A-lister briefly stopping to sign some autographs for fans.

John , known for starring in the likes of Roseanne, The Hangover and Love the Coopers, looked happy earlier this week as he showed off the results of his hard work and dedication over recent years.

The actor’s weight loss has been a slow and steady process, which John has openly spoken about.

The Monsters Inc actor vowed back in 2007 to completely change his lifestyle after reaching a peak weight of 28 stone, and he's stuck to his word ever since.

He told ABC in 2017: "In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack or whatever and just go back to my old habits."

John continued: "This time I wanted to do it slowly. Move, exercise. I'm getting to the age where I can't afford to sit still anymore.”

As part of his health kick, John ditched alcohol and admitted that it felt like it was something that he didn’t need. He also hired a personal trainer called Mackie Shilstone.

Discussing his motives for his dramatic weight loss, the star discussed his transformation with People back in 2010 after shedding nearly eight stone: "I know it sounds sappy, but it was a waste.

"It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your ass and figure out what you’re going to eat next … I wanted to live life better."

The Big Lebowski actor also admitted at the time that he'd struggled to maintain a healthy weight for most of his life.

But in 2016, he said he announced that he wanted his weight loss to be gradual, focusing on health and fitness rather than body image: "I took it slow. I just wanted to change my lifestyle. It’s an ongoing process for the rest of my life."

He explained: "It started when I was a kid. I'd lock myself in the house and sneak food. It gave me great pleasure to eat – it's part of an alcoholism personality."

John largely took a step back from movie acting in 2019, choosing instead to do shorter roles in TV series. Mostly recently he reprised his role as Bill Randa in Apple TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, bringing back his character from Kong: Skull Island.
