Hollywood star Taron Egerton reveals he lived in a famous Welsh village
Welsh actor Taron Egerton has appeared on Netflix's TikTok page to teach the streaming service's global audience of over 40m some of his favourite Welsh words and phrases. The actor is starring in Netflix's new action thriller Carry-On which was released on the platform on Friday, December 13.
Taron, who was born in Birkenhead but grew up in Wales, said "shwmae" to audiences who may not know he is Welsh. Introducing himself in the video, which you can watch below, he said: "Even though I sound American in my new movie Carry-On, I'm from Wales."
He then went on to teach some of his favourite Welsh words and slang that, in his words, "no American is likely to ever be able to say". He also revealed that he lived in the well-known village Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch for the early part of his childhood.

His favourite Welsh slang include the exasperations "nefi blw" and "bobol bach" and he said that one of his favourite words is "buwch goch gota", which means ladybird. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter
He joked: "My Welsh is patchy at this point but if my memory serves me correctly, it literally translates as 'little red cow'. So in Wales, a ladybug is a small red cow. We're an eccentric people." You can watch the full video here:
In Carry-On, Taron stars as Ethan Kopek, a young TSA -customs officer in the USA, who is blackmailed to let a dangerous package slip through security and onto a Christmas Day flight. While promoting the film, the actor explained that the film is similar to the iconic Christmas film Die Hard, which starred American actor Bruce Willis as John McLane.
