Heartbreak as popular Leeds city centre shop shuts after 12 years
A popular Leeds city centre shop has closed after 12 years.
Last month, West Yorkshire Cameras, based in The Grand Arcade, shut for the final time as a store. On social media, they posted: “I’d like to thank everyone here at West Yorkshire Cameras for their sterling effort helping to make the shop what it has become.
“We’ve been incredibly fortunate to call ‘faffing about with old cameras’ our jobs. Thank you customers, colleagues, friends in the industry and the people of Leeds – you’ve made running West Yorkshire Cameras a fantastic journey. There are so many familiar faces and names that we will miss."

Notices in the window of the unit have been put up which state ‘we are now closed’. A clearance sale is running until February 14. You can find out further details here.
Another line from West Yorkshire Camera’s social media statement adds: “All of us at West Yorkshire Cameras want to remain part of the film photography community going forward. As we finish everything up, we are still committed to providing the quality, honest service we’ve built the shop around for the last decade.
Many customers offered the team supportive messages online to the Leeds city centre business. Peter J G Jones said: “Such a shame to lose such a gem of a shop. Good luck to you all, whatever paths you take in the future.”
Phil Birch added: “That's sad. I've bought lots from you over the last few years and never got to see you in the arcade.” While Robin William added: “Best of luck with everything in the future. It's been great to pop in over the years. I'm sure whatever you all put your hand to you will be a great success.”
