Hair stencils are the dreamy festival hair trend we want to try this summer

First it was hidden rainbow hair, then holographic hair, then gemstone hair.

But the latest trend has to be one with the most room for creativity – hair stencils.

Like beautiful intricate paintings superimposed onto people’s tresses, this is far from a Photoshop job – stylists are using the careful technique to create everything from polka-dot patterns to full-blown floral displays on people’s locks.

And some of them are big names in the game of stencilling, such as Janine Ker, who debuted her work just over a year ago.

And the looks have become more and more advanced since – take a look at this simple-but-pretty dots pattern, for example.

And then take a look at this flowery piece.

According to ELLE, it’s not as complex to do as you might think – it’s achieved by simply resting a stencil against your hair and applying coloured hair spray over the top of it.

So we can only imagine you’ll have a higher success rate by calling in the help of a friend to put it on you, and vice versa.

If you managed to get Ker herself to do it for you, you can only imagine how many festival friends you’d end up making.
