Grab the Popcorn: Here are the 11 most anticipated movies of 2025
The movies of 2024 will still be talked about for a while longer. After all, awards season doesn't end until the Oscars in March, so people will continue holding space for "Defying Gravity" for a few more months whether you like it or not. But, if you're ready to look ahead, now's the time to do that, too. The new movies of 2025, including some very highly anticipated ones.
The new year brings major returns for two big actors: Cameron Diaz is acting again after over a decade and Lindsay Lohan is making a sequel to a beloved film that came out over 20 years ago. There's also, as always, a few superhero movies scheduled, including a new Captain America and a new Superman. Plus, some exciting directors are returning with new projects, such as Bong Joon-ho releasing his first movie since the 2019 hit Parasite. And, yeah, there's the Wicked sequel, which will reveal the fates of Elphaba and Glinda and surely give us another meme-worth press tour. There's a lot to look forward to!
Back in Action
On Netflix January 17
Back in Action has been on people's radars for two reasons: First, it marks Cameron Diaz's return to acting after 11 years. (Her last movie was 2014's Annie). Second, it was the film Jamie Foxx was shooting when he suffered a medical emergency and was hospitalised. In the movie, the two actors play former CIA agents, who get back in action.

Snow White
In cinemas March 21
Disney's live-action remakes continue with Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler as the titular character and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. A remake of a classic movie would be anticipated anyway, but the various controversies linked to this film meant it was talked about long before its premiere date.
Mickey 17
In cinemas April 18
Five years ago, director Bong Joon-ho won three Oscars for Parasite. Now, he's back with his next film. Mickey 17 stars Robert Pattinson (who is doing yet another weird voice) as a future human, who works as an "expendable", meaning that he completes space missions, but when his body dies, he is regenerated as a new version. Of course, this leads to some problems, particularly when two versions accidentally coexist.
Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning
In cinemas May 21
Tom Cruise stars as Ethan Hunt for the eighth time with Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. Based on the title, you'd think this is definitely the final movie of the series, but... that's not quite confirmed. Either way, the series is hugely popular and the movie is definitely going to make a ton of money.
28 Years Later
In cinemas June 20
28 Days Later came out in 2002, 28 Weeks Later in 2007, and now, we're finally getting 28 Years Later. For this third movie in the apocalyptic zombie series, the director and writer of the original, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, return. The cast includes Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes. There's also already a plan for 28 Years Later to be it's own trilogy.
F1
In cinemas June 25
Formula One fans have certainly heard a lot about F1, and even if you aren't a racing fan, you've probably come across the movie, too. Brad Pitt stars as a retired Formula One racer, who comes out of retirement to mentor a young driver (Damson Idris). The movie also features appearances from many real F1 drivers, like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
Superman
In cinemas July 11
Unless you're a big DC movies fan, this might be kind of confusing, but essentially the DC Comics movie franchise is being rebooted and turning from the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) into the DCU (DC Universe). Anyway, the first movie of the DCU is Superman, which stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
Freakier Friday
In cinemas August 8
LiLo is back, ya'll. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reunite for Freakier Friday, the sequel to 2003's Freaky Friday. Unsurprisingly, the movie involves their mother and daughter characters, Tess and Anna, switching bodies again, but this time they're at far different places in their lives than they were 22 years ago. Now, Anna is an adult with a daughter of her own.
Wicked: For Good
In cinemas November 21
Arguably the most highly anticipated movie of 2025 is Wicked: For Good, the sequel to Wicked. After all, anyone who saw the original is still waiting to find out what happens to Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande). You know, unless they saw the musical... or checked out its Wikipedia page... or read the book. Still, very highly anticipated.
Avatar: Fire and Ash
In cinemas December 19
Thirteen years passed between the release of the first two Avatar movies, but James Cameron said, that ain't happening again! The third Avatar film, Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to be released at the end of 2025.
