Prince Harry has made no progress fixing royal rift thanks to thorn in Royal Family's side – but Kate Middleton could change everything
As 2024 draws to a close, the rift between royal brothers Prince William and Prince Harry continues. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with other members of the Royal Family including King Charles and Queen Camilla, were spotted mingling with the crowds at Sandringham on Christmas Day. Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan celebrated the festive season thousands of miles away in Montecito, California with their little ones. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has pointed out a stark contrast in the media coverage received by the two families.
The UK royals have been basking in positive press for their public outings, including Kate's carol concert. On the flip side, Harry and Meghan have been facing a barrage of negative headlines, with claims that Meghan aspires to be "American royalty," and reports labelling Betterup, a mental health company linked to Harry, as a "psychologically unsafe place to work" according to past and present employees, as per a report in the Mail.
Jennie spoke exclusively to OK! about Harry and Meghan's private Christmas celebration, saying: "They had their own private Christmas thousands of miles away and hopefully they had a good time." She also commented on the Royal Family's public appearance, stating: "Meanwhile, our royal family put themselves on parade and consequently enjoyed a great deal of extremely positive public approval and publicity. If Harry and Meghan troubled to take note of the positive feedback around the royals here, they would probably have been happy that the King and Catherine were well enough to be out and about after their cancer diagnoses. They are not heartless. As for the negative publicity surrounding themselves, I hope they have learned to ignore it."

Jennie doesn't see any reconciliation between William, Charles and Harry in 2024. She said: "I don’t foresee any progress in mending fences with the King and William in the New Year. The court case against the Home Office continues to put Charles in a very awkward position," referring to Harry’s ongoing legal challenge regarding his police protection in the UK.
She also shared her thoughts on William's current feelings towards his brother, stating: "And I don’t think William is yet in any mood to contemplate patching things up with his brother. It could happen...one day...but there’s no sign yet."
However, Jennie does hold some hope for a possible reconciliation and believes that Kate Middleton could play a key role in improving the brothers’ relationship.
"I think it’s possible that something like cancer can change perspectives – Catherine herself has said so – and that, one day, life might just seem too short to continue to bear grudges. But that day may yet be a very long way off....if it ever comes at all," she said.
